01 - Written Exam

This is a general test to evaluate your basic reading, writing, and numerical abilities.

02 - Oral Interview

As with any job interview we will assess your personal accomplishments, job motivation, problem solving skills, interpersonal skills, community involvement/awareness, and oral communication skills.

03 - Background Check

We’ll evaluate your past behavior and the extent to which your behavior demonstrates positive traits that support your candidacy as a Police Officer. This includes a check of your criminal record and driving history.

04 - Physical Agility Test

The Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council requires that those wishing to attend Basic Law Enforcement Training to pass the Physical Agility Test before they are admitted into the academy.

05 - Polygraph Evaluation

This is necessary to in order to confirm information that you’ve submitted throughout the hiring process.

06 - Mental Evaluation

This is to evaluate your emotional stability, psychological suitability, and whether you can mentally handle the stress that accompanies the duties involved with being a police officer.

07 - Final Interview

This allows us to find out more about you, your application, your motivations for wanting to become a police officer, what you know about the role of a police officer, and what you know about our Department.

08 - Conditional Job Offer

Once you’re to this point, the Chief of Police will provide you with a conditional job offer for employment with the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department! Congratulations on making it this far!

09 - Medical Evaluation

It’s essential that you’re physically, mentally, and emotionally healthy with no conditions that would restrict your ability to safely perform the necessary duties of a police officer.

10 - You're Hired!

Once you accepted and met the requirements of your conditional job offer, you’re then on your way to advancing through your career in law enforcement with the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department.
