Fort Oglethorpe Police Department Hosted Its First National Night Out
National Night Out is a time for local law enforcement and first responders to gather together with the people in their communities and get to know one another. National Night Out events take place on the first Tuesday of August each year and normally consists of music, games, free food, and demonstrations by first responders and law enforcement. The very first National Night Out was in 1984 and took place throughout 23 states in the United States.
This year Fort Oglethorpe Police Department hosted its first ever National Night Out event at Gilbert Stephenson Park, where over 1,000 people attended. Other agencies joined the event, including the Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office, Ringgold Police Department, Catoosa County Fire Department, EMS, and others.
After the event Fort Oglethorpe Police Chief Keith Sewell posted on Facebook, “On behalf of the incredible men and women of the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department, I would like to thank the more than 1,000 citizens that took time out to attend our first National Night Out celebration.
Everyone came together to have a great time while building relationships with our local hirst responders as well as other local community service providers. I would also like to thank our local business partners who were in attendance to highlight services they provide.”
Thanks to the local businesses who provided for the free entertainment and food at the event: Black Dog Productions (music); Pallet Tech, Walmart, Publix, Food City and Costco (food); The Coca-Cola Company (drinks); and Apex Inflatables (dunk tank).
