Sign-On Incentives for Georgia P.O.S.T. Certified Officers
While the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department has an interest in hiring both non-certified candidates and certified officers, those who are P.O.S.T. certified prior to hire date and meet eligibility requirements will receive a $5,000 sign-on incentive! The incentive will be paid at the completion of FTO ($2,500) and at the end of probation ($2,500). A three year employment contract is required.
Eligibility
Eligibility of an Applicant to participate in the City of Fort Oglethorpe Police Department Employment Incentive Program is contingent upon the following eligibility requirements:

- Applicant must not have been employed by the City of Fort Oglethorpe as a sworn police officer within the previous five years.
- Applicant must be certified by Georgia P.O.S.T. and be in good standing prior to hire date.
- Applicant must agree to and sign the City of Fort Oglethorpe Police Department Employment Incentive Agreement.
- Employment by the City as a sworn police officer.
Distribution of Funds
The total amount of the City of Fort Oglethorpe Police Department Employment Incentive is $5,000. The first one half advance payment ($2,500) will be paid to the Applicant upon the successful completion of the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department Field Training Program. The second one half advance payment ($2,500) will be paid to the Applicant upon successful completion of a one year probationary period. Upon successful completion of 36 months of employment as a sworn police officer with the City of Fort Oglethorpe, said incentive shall be considered fully earned and no repayment to the City shall be owed. All incentive payments are subject to all applicable taxes and payroll deductions made by the City of Fort Oglethorpe.
Contingencies
The following conditions deal with the contingencies of the City of Fort Oglethorpe Police Department Employment Incentive Program.

- If the Applicant resigns or is terminated for cause prior to completing the Field Training Program, Applicant will not be eligible to receive any portion of the Incentive.
- If the Applicant completes the Field Training Program and receives the first advance incentive payment, but then resigns or is terminated for cause, Applicant will not be eligible to receive any additional portion of the Incentive, and will be responsible for the repayment to the City of any Incentive already paid to him or her. Said repayment shall be at a monthly amount equal to the incentive paid, divided by 24 months.
- If the Applicant resigns or is terminated for cause prior to completing 36 consecutive months of service as a sworn police officer, the Applicant will be responsible for the repayment to the City of any Incentive paid. Said repayment shall be at a monthly amount equal to the incentive paid, divided by 24 months.
- In the event the Applicant fails to make any monthly repayment of the incentive when due, the total balance shall then become due and payable.
