Salary & Benefits

Requirements

These requirements are subject to change at any time:
  • Age: Applicants must be 21 years of age at the time of appointment

  • Education: Have a high school diploma, GED, or an approved college degree indicating successful completion of high school.

  • Citizenship: Must be a citizen of the United States or a repatriated or naturalized citizen of the United States.

  • License: Possess and maintain a valid driver's license and have a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record to maintain employment.

Benefits

These benefits are subject to change at any time:

  • Retirement: Benefits are provided by the city's participation in the Georgia Municipal Employees Benefit System (GMEBS).

  • Vacation Leave: 104 hours per year, increasing with years of service.

  • Holidays: 12 paid holidays per year.

  • Sick Leave: 104 hours per year.

  • Take Home Vehicle: Take home patrol vehicles are available to those who live within a 25-mile radius of the police department, with approval from Chief of Police.

Incentives

These incentives are subject to change at any time:

  • Paid Mandate School: We will pay your tuition to attend Basic Mandate training, if you're not already certified.

  • Uniforms and Equipment: We will pay for your uniforms and equipment necessary to perform your duties as a police officer.

  • Night Shift Differential: Those assigned to night shift will earn an extra $1.00 / hour.

  • Bilingual: If you're proficient in a second language, you can receive an extra $1.00 / hour.

  • Field Training Officers: Active Field Training Officers can earn an extra $1.00 / hour.

Salary

Starting pay for police officers with the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department (excluding $2,208 of holiday pay):

$50,232 / year

In addition to the salary above, you have to opportunity to earn pay if any of the following applies:

  • Night Shift Differential: Those assigned to night shift will earn an extra $1.00 / hour. ($2,184 / year)

  • Bilingual: If you're proficient in a second language, you can receive an extra $1.00 / hour. ($2,184 / year)

  • Field Training Officers: Active Field Training Officers can earn an extra $1.00 / hour. ($2,184 / year)
